graduating ginger…
May 18, 2011

So…my last “final” is today at 2…(“final” because I’ve already done it and submitted it.)

After this…I will never have to go to class, write an assignment, do homework, or take a test again!  It’s bittersweet …definitely not as exciting as I imagined.

I can still remember the feeling I had when my parents dropped me off at Saint Joseph’s University 4 years ago…it is amazing to think how fast the time has gone by!!

I have had the pleasure of LOVING my “random match” freshman roommate, Maggie. At first Maggie seemed like the complete opposite of me…but over the years we have grown extremely close! This is the first day we met….we had spent all day setting up our dorm room and were very proud of our favorite duck rug!

Maggie and I ended up living together ALL 4 years…over the past few weeks we had A LOT of talks about…graduating, jobs, growing up, being scared, how fast it all went by, and how much we will miss living together…it is SO sad to think that the person you have been living with…sharing all of your  laughs, your cries, your secrets, your dreams, and your worries with…someone that you have formed this incredible bond with….you may not see them…ever again…

I tried not to think about it and smile during graduation day…but it really has been heartbreaking to think about.

I know that Maggie is a friend for life and we will remain friends but I have to say…it is WEIRD not talking to her everyday…and if you’re reading this Maggie…I love you and miss you!!!  Hopefully we can arrange a visit soon!! ❤

Wow this entry came out a lot sadder than I imagined….

Portfolio
May 4, 2011

It’s that time of year again!  I am fixing up my portfolio for my Communications class, I haven’t done much to it since last semester.  I added a few things to the experience section, added a new video, and still having trouble uploading my slide show presentations.  Feel free to check it out!

UH OHHH
April 30, 2011

WOW, as I was editing my final draft of my TUNE UP PHILLY documentary and applying for jobs….my computer crashed!  I ended up spending all afternoon in the Apple store on Friday waiting for the “geniuses” to replace my hard drive.  When I got my laptop back it looked like brand new!  It was AWESOME!

Except…that I lost everything.

All of my b-roll of Stanford Thompson and Tune Up Philly, all of my resumes and cover letters I have been sending out, all of my documents for policy (thank god I handed everything in 2 weeks ago!), all of my pictures, and all of my music…

Luckily I backed up most of this stuff about a month ago…but unfortunately I did lose a lot of footage in addition to my original working “Tune Up Philly” documentary.  I don’t know what I am going to do about this because I somehow have to fix up my video and submit it by Thursday…time to get creative!

I also mentioned that I lost all of my cover letters which is a BIG deal to me because I am a super organized person…I had folders made up for every single company I applied to – in that folder I had the unique cover letter I wrote, my resume that was tailored to that position, and the date I applied.  I was extremely upset to lose all of that data (my goddd I am such a nerd!).

The job search has been so time-consuming and hearing all these “no’s” back is so hurtful!  I know everyone says you can’t take it personally and to stay positive…but is that really possible in this job market?

a review of the class TEDtalks
April 23, 2011

Other the past few weeks our Communications Ethics class has heard a variety of student’s TED talks.  I really enjoyed how diverse the talks were- students discussed everything from polar bears to school politics.

A few of the talks were on similar subjects such as orphans, dogs, and behavioral changes do to the internet.

Alex’s talk on internet meme’s was particularly interesting I like how he used a very personal tone.  SPeaking of personal tones, Kaliope’s talk was AWESOME!  Although she didn’t rehearse her talk it came out great!! She was very personable and had a great topic.

Those were just a few highlights of the talented TED talks at SJU…

Ginger talk
April 3, 2011

For my TEDGINGERtalk, I will explain how the rise of social media had changed the way we read and react to the news.

Trending now: Brigid Slattery gives a talk about the revolution social media has led to in the “news” industry.  Listen as Brigid explains how this wide-spread uncontrolled forum has changed the way we hear about the news.   The rise of consumer-driven content has gotten rid of the gate keepers; letting you decide what is “newsworthy”.

Today in my communications class I was told to make a list of places I haven’t been to on campus and to visit them!

I decided to go discover the art building on campus…right away I noticed the large wooden artwork outside.  When I wandered around the side of the building I saw a sculpture garden.  I assumed that the collection was accumulated over the years because some of them were facing in different directions, made from different types of clay, and some were broken.

When I walked inside it was hard to miss the exhibit “Conviction of Vanity” displayed in the entrance.

There I saw a series of hot pink and orange flagging tape knitted and crocheted together in different patterns this was hanging down from the banisters along the stairs.

The next thing I saw in the “Conviction of Vanity” display looked like a distorted mirror and what looked like a squiggley design made from cloth or canvas….but when I got closer I saw it made of zippers sewn together sooo coool!!!

Once I finished soaking in all the exhibit, I walked upstairs and I noticed the painting rooms, there was paint all over the walls, floors, easels, EVERYWHERE!! I thought back to the classrooms in the business school that I had been used to…this was completely different!  It was completely unstructured…I was amazed at how different this ONE building on campus was from everywhere else.  Anyway I took some more pictures of what I saw enjoy!
